Mojtaba Mahdavi: Effects, Obstacles, and Transformations of “Woman, Life, Freedom”

On September 1, 2023, the Iran 1400 Project interviewed Dr. Mojtaba Mahdavi about the effects, obstacles, goals, and potential transformations of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement. Dr. Mahdavi discussed the paradigmatic shifts of the movement and its significance. He also explored the structural factors and constraints that affect the movement and emphasized the need for social justice.

Professor at the University of Alberta, Mojtaba Mahdavi’s work focuses on middle eastern studies, political economy, contemporary islamic studies, decolonial/postcolonial studies and discursive/intellectual transformations in a MENA/muslim context. In this video, we focus on his collectively written work “Rethinking China, the Middle East and Asia in a ‘Multiplex World’”. It explores the inclusion of China in the MENA region and what it can possibly mean for our world.
